On the Sunday of the Holy Fathers, when we celebrate Holy First-martyr and Archdeacon Stephen, at the monastery of St. Prohor Pchinski, a Holy Liturgy was served and the faithful partook in the Holy Gifts of Christ.

Herod and St. protomartyr Stephan, who’s commemorated today, are two different examples. Herod was obsessed with self-loving destroyed everything around himself only to satisfy his passion, while St. Stephen gave his life for God because of love and he prayed to God to forgive his killers.

The Herod’s body was corrupted while he was still alive and it begun to smell, but the face of St. Stephen was shining like a face of an angel.

Herod ended in the hell, in the place of eternal suffering, while St. Stephen ended in the Heavenly Kingdom, in the eternal joy of the God’s presence. The choice is ours which example we are going to follow. (more…)
