My First Visit to Any Church

My knowledge of Christianity was zero at that time, I did not know what I had to do next. The only Christian I knew was that above mentioned teacher, so I decided that I had to go to his

home to know what step I had to make after this decision of mine. He was surprised upon seeing me there and asking for the address of the Church. I explained to him what happened to me, and he was very happy for my decision to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. I did not know much about the many denominations that existed within Christianity, except the general knowledge that there are Roman Catholic and Protestant Christians, and none at all about the Orthodox Church, since there was no Orthodox Church at that time. He gave me the address of his Dutch Reformed Church. I did not know what to expect when I decided to enter into the Church building that Sunday morning. Of course I did not tell anyone in my family when I did it.

My Grandfather

However one day my grandfather discovered the secret, because the New Testament that was given to me by the teacher dropped off from within the backside of my shirt as I walked hurriedly in front of my grandfather. My grandfather was shocked upon seeing the book. He slapped my face and calling me a “disgrace” in the family. I was so frightened, especially when the news was spread and one of my relatives was going to kill me for it. I was terribly frightened, being a young lad of high school age, that I had to run away from the house, and hiding in my school friend’s house for several days. But later my grandfather was able to find out my where-about. He asked me to go home with him, I was reluctant to comply with his command, after he assured me that no one would do me any harm, at last I went home with him. Мојата прва посета на една црква

Моето познавање за христијанството беше нула во тоа време, не знаев што треба да правам понатаму. Единствениот христијанин што го знаев беше погоре спомнатиот наставник, па затоа одлучив дека мора да појдам кај него дома за да знам кој е следниот чекор што треба да го направам после оваа моја одлука. Тој се изненади кога ме виде таму и кога го прашав за адресата на црквата. Му објаснив што ми се имаше случено и тој многу се израдува заради мојата одлука да верувам во Господ Исус Христос. Малку знаев за многуте вероисповеди што постојат во христијанството. Имав само некое општо знаење дека постојат римокатолици и протестанти, ама за Православната Црква воопшто ништо не знаев, затоа што тогаш овде немаше Православна Црква. Тој ми ја даде адресата на неговата Холандска реформистичка црква. Не знаев што можам да очекувам кога одлучив да влезам во храмот тоа неделно утро. Се разбира, не кажав никому од моето семејство кога го направив тоа.

Мојот дедо

Меѓутоа, еден ден дедо ми ја откри тајната, бидејќи Новиот Завет што ми го имаше дадено наставникот ми испадна од под кошулата додека одев набрзина пред него. Беше шокиран кога ја виде книгата. Ми удри шлаканица и ме нарече „срам“ во семејството. Бев многу исплашен, особено кога се прочу веста и еден од моите роднини сакаше да ме убие заради тоа. Ужасно се исплашив, зашто бев младо момче, средношколец, така што морав да избегам од дома и да се кријам во домот на мојот школски другар повеќе дена. Но, подоцна дедо ми успеа да ме пронајде. Ми рече да одам дома со него, но јас се колебав да го послушам. Откако ме увери дека никој нема да ме повреди, најпосле си отидов дома со него. Кога стигнавме, ме седна пред себе и пред баба ми. Ме праша зошто го напуштив исламот.

Introduction

This can be proved by the venerable person of Archimandrite Daniel Biantoro from Indonesia (the largest Moslem country in the world), to whom The Lord revealed in a marvellous way

and he believed in Him with all of his heart as in the one true God and decided to follow Him. Until almost thirty years ago there was not a single Orthodox Christian and not a single Orthodox Church in Indonesia. Father Daniel was the first to convert to Orthodoxy. Since then the word of truth started to be sown on Indonesian ground. During a single service there happened the same that what was happening in the first centuries with the Apostles and the first Christians: During a service held by father Daniel as many as 2000 people converted into Orthodoxy. About all of this and about his personality we will be told by father Daniel himself, with whom we have made this interview with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, first hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.

Father Gavril, abbot at thе monastery of St Prohor Pcinski, Donnybrook AUS

Father Gavril, there has been a long time since you have been appointed to a noble mission in the Australian and New Zealand diocese of MOC. (Macedonian Orthodox Church). Seen from such a distance, how do you see the situation among the Macedonian community there, above all in the spiritual field?

To this question you can get a best answer by His Holy Grace Petar, who is he current bishop and spiritual father of this diocese. I can give you an appropriate answer only in regard to my monastery. According to me, the spiritual life in our diocese is improving. There are more and more people who fast, confess and take Holy Communion. A great number of the people return to our Mother Church.

I came to Australia on 26 January 2006 (which is a national holiday in Australia). When I left Macedonia it was winter with a temperature of -15˚С, and when I arrived at the airport in Melbourne it was +43˚С (that’s 58 degrees that make a big difference). Отец Гаврил, измина прилично долг период откако сте во благородна мисија во Австралиско-новозеландската епархија при МПЦ. Од таа временска дистанца, како ја оценувате состојбата, пред сè мислам во духовната сфера, на македонската заедница таму?

На ова ваше прашање во потполност може најдобро да ви одговори Неговото Високопреосвештенство г. Петар, како актуелен Епископ и духовен отец на оваа Епархија.

Јас можам да одговорам најдобро само за мојот манастир. Според мене, духовниот живот во нашата Епархија се подобрува. Сè повеќе има луѓе кои постат, се исповедаат и се причестуваат. Многумина се враќаат во крилото на Црквата.

Во Австралија дојдов на 26 јануари 2006 (националниот празник на Австралија). Кога тргнав од Македонија беше зима со температура од -15˚С, а кога слетав на аеродромот во Мелбурн беше +43˚С (температурна разлика од 58 степени). Си реков: „Каде дојдов?“.  (more…)
