In the Orthodox Church, today is known as Theodore Saturday (this is always the case for the first Saturday of Great Lent). Throughout the season of Great Lent (period given to us for repentance – refocus on Christ in a proper way) we’re constantly reminded of things in our own lives that we need to be looking at. The Church helps us in our repentance, and in our walk toward Christ, with hints and reminders, especially in the services of the Church. I’d like to begin by relating the story that gives today it’s name, and then reflect on our interactions with God through the prism of this story.

Во Името на отецот и Синот и Светиот Дух

Господ Исус Христос, Бог Словото, заради нас луѓето се воплоти и стана човек, потоа се крсти од Јована во Јордан и сакаше да ни ги отвори небесата и да ни ја отвори можността повторно да се вратиме онаму каде што човечкото достоинство припаѓаше, а тоа е во рајот со Господа. Во вечната заедница со блажениот и свет Бог. Затоа и Господ слезе на земјата за да ја проповеда својата спасителна наука.

Заради тоа Господ од Назарет премина во пределите Завилонски и Нефталимски кај што владеeла темнината на незнабожтвото, за да го потврди она што е напишано во Светото Писмо и поверуваат во Него: “Земјата Завулонова и замјата Нафталимова, по пат кон морето, отаде Јордан, е назнабожечка Галилеја. “Народот, што седеше во мрак, виде голема светлина и она оние, што седеа во место на сенка смртна, им изгреа светлина”.

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

Lord Jesus Christ, God the Word, for us people incarnated and became a man, then he was baptized by John at Jordan and wanted to open the heaven for us and to open the possibility for us to return where human dignity belonged, which is in heaven with the Lord. In eternal communion with the good and holy God. That is why the Lord descended on earth, to preach His teaching of salvation. That is why the Lord went from the land of Zabulon and the land of Naphtalim where the darkness of paganism ruled, in order to confirm what was written in the Scriptures and they would believe in Him:”The land of Zabulon and the land of Nephtalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, is Galilee of the Gentiles. “The people that sat in darkness saw a great light, especially to those that were sitting in a place of deadly shade, light shone.”

With the very thought to say the words CHRIST IS BORN, my heart fills with cries and tears.

Because just when you think about why did Jesus come?

Why was he incarnated?

Why did he become man and in a cradle as a helpless baby he was humbled…?
