On Sunday, the day of descent of the Holy Spirit – Pentecost, known by the people as Day of the Spirit, and the memory of Saint Hieromartyr Erasmus of Ochrid and the 20 000 martyrs, father Gavril served a festive Holy Devine Liturgy, where with fear of God, with faith and love, the faithful people drew near the Body and Blood of Christ.

Readings of Epistle (Acts 2:1-11)

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the multitudes came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs-we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.

Hieromartyr Erasmus of Ochrid

This saint was born in Antioch and lived in the reigns of Diocletian and Maximian. He lived in strict asceticism on Mount Lebanon, and was endowed by God with great wonderworking gifts. As a bishop, he set out to preach the Gospel. Arriving at the city of Ochrid, he restored the son of a man called Anastasius to life by his prayers, and baptised him. At this time, Erazmus baptised many other pagans and tore down the idolatrous altar in Ochrid. For this he was denounced to the Emperor Maximian, who was at that time staying in Illyria. The Emperor brought him before the copper image of Zeus, and ordered him to bring sacrifices and worship the idol. St Erazmus, by his power, caused a terrible dragon to come out of the statue, which terrified all the people. The saint then worked another wonder, and the dragon died. Then the saint preached Christ and baptised 20,000 souls. The furious Emperor commanded that all 20,000 be beheaded, and put Erazmus to harsh torture, before throwing him into prison. But an angel of God appeared to him, as once to the Apostle Peter, and led him out of the prison. After that, this servant of God went to Campania, where he preached the Gospel to the people, then returned again to the town of Hermelia, where he withdrew to a cave and lived in asceticism for the rest of his days. At the time of his death, he prostrated three times towards the East and, with upraised hands, prayed to God to forgive and give eternal life to all those who would, with faith, call upon his name. At the end of his prayer, a voice was heard from heaven: ‘Let it be as thou hast asked, My little healer Erazmus!’ The saint looked up once more to heaven with great joy and saw a wreath of glory descending upon him, and a choir of angels, prophets, apostles and martyrs waiting to receive his holy soul. He finally cried: ‘Lord, receive my spirit!’, and breathed his last, in about the year 303. The cave and chapel of St Erazmus stand to this day not far from Ochrid, and from there is proclaimed to this day the great power of the man of God, Erazmus the hieromartyr.”

Koga se navr{ija dnite na Pedesetnica, site apostoli bea zaedno i ednodu{ni. I nenadejno se ~u {um od neboto, kako da ide{e slilen vetar, i ja ispolni celata ku}a, kade {to sedea. I im se javija razdeleni jazici, kako ogneni, i zastanaa po eden na sad sekogo od niv. I site se ispolnija so Duh Sveti, i po~naa da zboruvaat na drugi jazici, onaka kako {to im dava{e Duhot Sveti da izgovaraat. A vo Erusalim ima{e Judejci, lu|e pobo`ni, od sekakov jazik pod neboto. Koga se ~u toj {um, se sobra mnogu narod i s# se zbrka, bidej}i sekoj gi slu{a{e kako zboruvaat na negoviot jazik. I site se ~udea i maeja, velej}i si pome|u sebe:  >>Ovie {to zboruvaat, zar ne se site Galilejci? Pa kako toa site da go slu{ame svojot roden jazik? Nie – Partjanite i Midjanite, Elamitite i `itelite na Mesopotamija, Judeja i Kapadokija, od Pont i od Azija, od Frigija i Pamfilija, od Egipet i od krai{tata na Livija, sosedite na Kirinija, pa i dojdenite Rimjani. Kako nie Judejcite, taka isto i novoobratenite, Kritjanite i Arabjanite, eve slu{ame kako tie zboruvaat za golemite dela Bo`ji na na{ite jazici?<<

Светиот свештеномаченик Еразмо Охридски

Овој светител беше родум од Антиохија и живееше во времето на царевите Диоклецијан и Максимијан. Се подвизувше крепко на Ливанската Гора и имаше од Бога голем дар на чудотворство. Како архиереј тргна да го проповеда Евангелието. Кога дојде во Охрид, Еразмо го воскресна синот на некој човек по име Анастас и го крсти овој човек. Во таа прилика крсти и мнозина други незнабошци и ги разори идолските жртвеници во Охрид. За ова беше обвинет кај царот Максимијан, којшто во тоа време престојуваше во Илирија. Царот го изведе пред бакарната статуа на Ѕевс и му нареди да принесе жртва и да му се поклони на идолот. Свети Еразмо направи со благодатта, па од статуата излезе страшен змеј и го исплаши сиот народ. И пак направи светителот со благодатта и змејот пцовиса. Тогаш светителот Го проповедаше Христа и крсти дваесет илјади души. Огорчен царот нареди и ги заклаа сите овие дваесет илјади христијани, а Еразмо го стави на тешки маки, па потоа го фрли во затвор. Но му се јави ангел Божји, како некогаш на Светиот апостол Петар и го изведе Еразмо од затворот. По ова овој Божји слуга отиде во Кампанија, каде што им го проповедаше Евангелието на луѓето, па повторно се врати во градот Хермелија, каде што се повлече во една пештера, во која се подвизуваше до смртта. Пред смртта трипати се поклони кон исток и со воздигнати раце Му се молеше на Бога, Бог да им ги прости гревовите и да им подари вечен живот на оние коишто со вера ќе го повикуваат неговото име. На крајот од молитвата се слушна глас од небото: „Нека биде како што се молеше, исцелителу мој Еразмо!“ Сиот радосен светителот погледна уште еднаш на небото и го виде венецот на славата кога се спушташе на него и виде хорови ангели, пророци, апостоли и маченици, кои приоѓаа да ја примат неговата душа. Најпосле самиот возвикна: „Господи, прими го духот мој!“ и издивна, во 303 година. Пештерата со црквичката на Свети Еразмо и денес стои недалеку од Охрид и од неа и до денес се пројавува големата сила на овој Божји угодник, свештеномаченик Еразмо.
